Today, I had the opportunity to conduct a quick image with a small group of kindergartners. This experience was so interesting and very beneficial for me in my growth as a teacher of mathematics! Along with a few other colleagues of mine, we worked with a group of five kindergartners and showed them 4 different quick images. It was so interesting to hear how children were seeing/visualizing the different arrangements of dots. During our time with our buddies, we tried to incorporate a number of talk moves in order to get at students’ understanding and reasoning by asking a variety of questions such as asking children to share their thinking, to repeat what each other said, and asking them if they have a different idea or way of seeing the image. The kids were very eager to share their ideas and to show us their thinking and how they were visualizing the different quick images we showed them.
